A few weeks ago Blake, Meme, Pappy and I went on a little road trip. We went all the way to Tupelo, Mississippi for my grandma's 85th birthday. This was a big adventure. Blake had never been on a real road trip. This little hike took about 7 hours, but seeing Grandma was totally worth it.
I did everything I could think of to be prepared for the trek. I got a new coloring book and crayons, a tray for her car seat, a travel DVD player and some great movies. I also brought the good snacks and apple juice. What else could we need?
We got up Friday morning, had a good breakfast and we were ready to go. I had noticed that Blake was a little snotty the day before. It's hard to miss, because she's constantly saying, "Mommy boogers." I didn't teach her that one; I blame school or her dad. Anyway, I wasn't too worried about it. I grabbed some Kleenex for the ride and we were out the door.
Blake slept an hour or two at the beginning of the trip and then things got dicey. I put in a movie, which she liked for about 20 minutes. I tried to put the tray on the car seat, wasn't having it. We tried to color, fun for about 10 minutes. By this time, the "boogers" had turned into full blown sick. Hours 4 through 7 were tough.
We were able to go to a few family events and the birthday party, but Blake and I weren't able to hang around. We spent the majority of the weekend in the hotel room where Blake refused to sleep. I am so spoiled because Blake always sleeps and I really didn't know how to deal with her insomnia. Meme was my savior, because Blake liked her rocking a lot more than anything I was doing.
There was a lot of snot and a lot of crying. The good news is that we were able to celebrate with Grandma. By the time we made it to Sunday she had cried herself out and slept the majority of the drive home.
We made it home safe and sound. I got busy on nursing Blake to a full recovering. In the meantime, I contracted her illness and then gave it to Josh. Meme babysat while I tried to pull myself together. This story ends with the whole family in our sweatpants watching the Super Bowl because we were too sick to go anywhere. Who knew that a one year old could take out the whole family with her germs!
I wanted to send out a big thank you to Meme. The past two months have been crazy and I don't know what I would do without all of your help. I love you and I'm not the only one.
